Programs & Initiatives Update – Winter 2022 Newsletter

2022 has been a productive year for the IHA WIO team. We made improvements to caringgene.com and the site became available for our hospital members to post jobs and connect with applicants that have the Caring Gene®.

We are excited to announce that the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation has renewed our two grant programs to continue through 2023. This will be the third year of the Online Acute Care Training Program and the second year of the IHA Mother Cabrini Scholarship. We have also been working in collaboration with HCANYS to provide home care workers with online Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training. We would like to thank the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for its continued support and generosity.

Caring Gene®

Caringgene.com added new content to the site to better assist individuals interested in a health care career learn about the industry. The site also added an interactive map of New York State and health care sector filters to streamline the job search process. Hospitals were added to the site in the Spring, allowing all of our members to utilize the site for their recruitment efforts. In early November, we presented at the Philips Global Media Summit about our award winning “Call to Care” campaign and how we strive to recruit quality health care workers.

IHA Acute Care Training Program

Over 3,200 online courses were taken by IHA member employees over the course of 2022. The most popular courses were “Microaggressions in Healthcare”, “The BIG Impact of Micro-messages”, “Hand Hygiene”, and “Resilience in Healthcare”.

The program also produced a series of 6 educational webinars focused on innovative strategies to improve workforce recruitment and retention. The webinars helped to inform hospital administrations of ways to support the mental well-being of their employees, foster diversity, implement mentorships, and more. You can view all six of the webinars here.

In 2023 we will continue to provide our robust curriculum free of charge for IHA members as well as work with users to improve content and add to our offering. We will also be presenting another series of educational and strategy focused webinars.

IHA Mother Cabrini Scholarship Program

IHA awarded 28 hospitals with $9,428 to support employee education. This was our first year conducting the program. Based on demographic profiles submitted back to us from participating hospitals, the funding was allocated to employees such as a low-income, single mother from Ukraine pursuing a degree as a Registered Nurse, and others who have 1 or more dependents and make less than $20K annually.

Please keep your eye out for communications regarding the next round of scholarships being given to IHA members in 2023.
