The Department of Health and Human Services today announced $10 billion in additional funding from the Provider Relief Fund that will be distributed next week to COVID-19 high-impact or “hotspot” hospitals.

According to HHS, “the second round of funding announced today was based on a formula for hospitals with over 161 COVID-19 admissions between January 1 and June 10, 2020, or one admission per day, or that experienced a disproportionate intensity of COVID admissions (exceeding the average ratio of COVID admissions/bed). Hospitals will be paid $50,000 per eligible admission.

This funding is in addition to $4 billion that was distributed to certain safety-net and rural hospitals from the Provider Relief Fund last week.

IHA will continue to work with HHS, the Administration and New York Congressional delegation to support the ongoing financial pressures facing upstate New York’s hospitals and health systems.
