More on UISS Update – Summer 2022 Newsletter

After a long two years, Premier’s Annual Breakthroughs Conference was held as an in-person event at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor, Maryland!
UISS again sponsored members to attend the conference by covering the costs related to airfare and hotel rooms. Twelve (12) members attended, all of which were first-time attendees, and were treated to three busy days of learning with CEU approved sessions, networking during the many networking opportunities offered, and discovering the new technologies Premier showcased. All that along with a comedian emcee makes for a excellent conference.

Whether you were being inspired by 23-time Gold Medalist and Mental Health Advocate, Michael Phelps, on facing mental challenges moving toward peak performance, or rejuvenated by the panel on supply chain resiliency and technology innovations that showed us how disruption breeds innovation and forces us to move forward, you could feel the energy and momentum in the room, which gave a new optimism for all in attendance.

We were delighted that staff from a UISS member facility was once again asked to present at the conference. Dr. Mario Victoria, CMO (who has presented at the conference before) and Ronda Fitzgerald, Director of Quality & Safety at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY created an outpatient management program which integrated remote monitoring through a home health agency, and telemedicine services as part of its primary care network. They highlighted how the lessons learned during the pandemic were successfully adapted to tackle another challenging population: patients at high risk of readmission for COPD and CHF in a mid-sized community hospital, caring for a largely underserved community with limited resources, was able to work together with home health agencies, community-based organizations and primary care providers to reduce readmission rates for COPD and CHF while improving clinical and financial outcomes. If you missed it, you may want to reach out to Dr. Victoria or Ms. Fitzgerald to discuss their outcomes.

Our consulting partner, Nexera, also presented at the conference. Their discussion centered around the services offered through Nexera which include financial improvement, operations improvement, clinical engagement and workforce solutions, along with on the strategic approach necessary for a facility transformation, and the overall value analysis key success factors obtained when a facility partners with Nexera to implement Premier’s AscenDrive committed purchasing program.

All-in-all, it was a great three days! We can’t wait to see what Premier has in store for Breakthroughs 23. Hope to see you at next year’s Breakthroughs Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
