IHA is excited to announce we recently completed our 5th “Take A Look” tour across Central New York and the Southern Tier. Participants included medical students and residents from St. George’s University, Maimonides Medical Center, the Atlantic University School of Medicine and the American University of Antigua. Our latest tour itinerary included visits to four IHA member hospitals, one nursing home, and two primary care sites. The program received media attention from Binghamton’s WBNG News Channel 12. “I was very surprised with the many opportunities available in Upstate NY and it solidified my decision to ultimately move there. We met many physicians who are happy and enjoying their daily work in the community … It was truly an eye-opening experience,” said one participant.

The “Take A Look” program, which started in 2013, has already toured 20 counties across Upstate New York, exposing participants to the diverse health care settings that exist in the region. The next “Take A Look” tour will be held in Spring 2018 in the Capital Region and Adirondacks with a focus on narrowing the workforce shortage gap for Nurse Practitioners.
