Physician Recruitment

Hospitals are the cornerstone of health care in Upstate communities.  The Iroquois Healthcare Alliance (IHA) represents 57 hospitals and health systems in 31 Upstate counties.  Our hospitals are located in 5 regions of New York State: the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, North Country, Central New York, and the Southern Tier.  The beautiful geography of the region and the diversity of the many communities make Upstate a wonderful place to live, work, and practice medicine!

As the health care environment is ever-changing, IHA hospital members are continually seeking physicians trained in various specialties to introduce to current and developing opportunities.  At any given time, there may be as many as 100 different practice situations.

Upstate's hospitals offer health care professionals a special quality of life as well.  Our hospitals are community focused and committed to ensuring that every patient receives personal attention and high quality care.  Hospitals are located in virtually every type of environment in which you'd like to live and work.  Our largest medical centers are in mid-sized manageable cities with an urban flavor and plenty of cultural activities, and our smallest hospitals are located in some of the most picturesque communitites.

Upstate hospitals play a lead role in physician recruitment to secure the ability of our health systems to provide readily available health care in Upstate communities.  IHA supports the physician recruitment and retention efforts of our hospitals and wants to help physicians explore the vast opportunities in our region.

Connecting Downstate Physician Residents with Upstate Communities

The Iroquois Healthcare Alliance (IHA) -- with sponsorship by the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), and in cooperation with the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) -- hosted an Upstate New York “Where to Practice” Open House in New York City for downstate physician residents.

IHA encouraged member participation to allow Upstate organizations to network with physician residents, share practice opportunities in your area, and discuss the benefits of living and working in Upstate New York.

For additional information about IHA's physician recruitment initiatives, contact Stacy Connors, Associate Vice President, Member Relations & Advocacy.
